News – Fall Movie Festivals

The Master, which recently released it’s first full trailer online (that trailer is embedded in this post) has been scheduled for an October release in the U.S. but only in “limited release.” The thought being that writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson would pick a film festival to premiere his film at then set an official U.S. wide release date.

It appears that Fantastic Fest could be that festival. Fantastic Fest, for those that are unaware is a film festival that is hosted in Austin, Texas by Alamo Drafthouse owner Tim League. It is mainly focused on low budget horror movies, however it did open P.T. Anderson’s last film There Will Be Blood, so the two have some history.

According to thefilmstage.com’s report, Anderson, lead guitarist for the film Jonny Greenwood and Alamo Drafthouse owner Tim League were all spotted outside The Alamo Drafthouse having “a nice chat.” This year’s Fantastic Fest runs September 20-27.

Looper, a film that I have been looking forward to has been selected to open the Toronto Film Festival. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, and Emily Blunt. While this doesn’t really matter much to you and I because we probably aren’t anywhere near Toronto, it’s a positive sign because it means the film is good. The full synopsis and trailer is below.

In 2072, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to ‘close the loop’ by transporting back Joe’s future self.

Looper is set to open in theaters everywhere September 28th.
